A military cemetery of soldiers who were killed during the September campaign in 1939 in Stare Babice. The necropolis was established in 1940 for soldiers of the Polish Army who were killed while defending the western forefield of the capital of the Babice Redoubt – next to them lie the remains of civilian casualties of the Hitlerian terror as well as those of the guerrillas of the “Kampinos” group of the Home Army (i.a. those killed during the famous battle of Jaktorów on the 29th of September 1944, probably the largest guerrilla battle west of Vistula). Previously, between 1941 and 1942, the exhumed remains of soldiers who were killed in heroic combat in the areas of: the Babice radio station, Boernerów, Groty, Górce, Jelonki, Chrzanów or Blizne were moved here. According to official data there are 373 people buried here, although later research indicates that it is the resting place of 388 people. After entering through a masoned gate we pass a commemorative obelisk with a sculpted eagle and an inscription: MILITARY CEMETERY OF POLISH ARMY SOLDIERS KILLED IN COMBAT IN SEPTEMBER OF 1939 AND VICTIMS OF TERROR MURDERED IN THE YEARS OF HITLERIAN OCCUPATION. 373 VICTIMS REST HERE. A wide alley going between rows of white crosses leads to a monument with two sculpted bare swords resting on a cross which clearly refers to the tradition of Polish military victory over Teutonic Knights in the battle of Grunwald in 1410. There is an inscription below: THEY DIED DEFENDING HOMELAND / AGAINST THE HITLERIAN OCCUPANT. The structure was entered in the register of monuments in 1994.
