The wooden manor of the Carosi family in Stare Babice remains an excellent example of wooden residential architecture on Polish lands.
Its current owner, Joanna Moraczewska-Gwiazdowska is a descendant of Jan Filip Carosi, an Italian geologist invited to Poland by king Stanisław August Poniatowski. In 1787 Carosi was granted the Polish noble title from the hands of primate Michał Jerzy Poniatowski.
He was the author of archaeological works, remarkable at that time. Carosi was a precursor of professional geological work on Polish lands and his descriptions of geological excavations that do not exist anymore are quoted in modern scientific papers. The great-grandson of the famous geologist, Władysław Carosi, purchased part of the Cholewiński family’s assets along with the wooden manor in Stare Babice in the 1920s. Today, the renovated mansion along with a charming garden encourages us to reflect on the history of Polish land ownership.
