Dwór Ołtarzew

Ołtarzew ul. Poznańska 389

Description

In the middle of the 19th century, Bronisław Ryx from a Flanders family which was famous in the 18th century purchased Ołtarzew and settled down there. Franciszek Ryx, the butler of king Stanisław August Poniatowski, was gentled by the monarch and although he started his career as a barber at the court of the Lithuanian vice-chancellor Michał Sapieha, at the king’s court he was granted the title of Piaseczno’s starost and given the property of Prażmów. His heir was Franciszek Ryx Junior, who the sources refer to as “fraternal nephew” of the senior. However there are suppositions that he might have been a natural son of the king himself. Bronisław, who came from such an extraordinary family, settled down in peaceful Ołtarzew, near the so-called Poznań route. However, for having taken part in the January uprising, he was deprived of those assets and forced to emigrate. It wasn’t until 1906 that Ołtarzew returned to the hands of its rightful owner – Jerzy, son of Bronisław, purchased the manor from the tsarist authorities and began renovating the devastated building. During his time there, the park establishment was created. Jerzy Ryx made Ołtarzew an economic centre of his assets moving plant production and animal breeding here from Prażmów. The moment of prosperity of the grange in Ołtarzew quickly came to an end – in 1915 Russian soldiers destroyed the manor and plundered the goods and in 1919 the heir of the property Andrzej Ryx was killed defending Lwów. Krystyna Ryx, daughter of Jerzy, married Roman Olędzki, who received the Ołtarzew property as part of her dowry. They developed gardening here together. However, they lost Ołtarzew along with the breakout of the ww2. Their only son Andrzej, named after his uncle, lost his life in Auschwitz. The deteriorating manor was purchased in 2006 by its current owners – there is a wedding house here. While walking around the building it, you might want to take a look at the unplastered parts of the southern and eastern wall – bullet holes from 1939 can still be noticed there. There is also an oak planted by Andrzej Ryx growing nearby.
