The Old-Catholic Mariavite church of St. Jan the Baptist and Our Lady of the Rosary is located in Leszno at 57 Sochaczewska street. Near the church there is an establishment of a Mariavite parish consisting of approximately 250 people. The beginnings of the parish date back to 1906 when, following a conflict between the parish priest of the Roman-Catholic parish of St. Jan the Baptist in Leszno and vicar Adam Furmanik, the latter decided to convert to Mariavite faith together with several thousand of parishioners. The former parson was driven out of Leszno which met a harsh reaction of the parish priest of a neighbouring Roman-Catholic parish of Visitation of Virgin Mary in Zaborów – an armed force marched towards Leszno with an intention of pacifying the newly-converted Mariavites. Around 80 people were killed during the battle. The Mariavites who had been driven out of the parish constructed their own wooden chapel in Grądy and its first parish priest was Furmanik. After the ww2, the current masoned church with neo-gothic features of the façade and windows was constructed. The new main altar was consecrated on the 22nd of June 2013. The Head Bishop of the Old-Catholic Church of the Mariavites – Stanisław Maria Tymoteusz Kowalski (died in 1997) was from the Mariavite parish in Leszno. The Old-Catholic Mariavite church of St. Jan the Baptist and Our Lady of the Rosary is located in Leszno at 57 Sochaczewska street.
