A monument in the form of a cross, a cannon barrel, a round boulder and two commemorative plaques dedicated to the victims of Hitlerism (residents, prisoners of concentration camps and guerrillas) was placed in 1971 in a square as a result of an initiative of the local community and veterans of the Home Army.
Truskaw is one of the important towns on the war map of Mazowsze. Here, during the September campaign, there were fierce combats of uhlans and horse artillery against the German armoured division which resulted in numerous casualties and burning down the village. In the following years this was the area of conspiratorial operation of the Home Army’s “Kampinos” group and the insurgent special unit “Jerzyki” as well as guerrillas from the People’s Army supported by Soviet soldiers. On the night between the 2nd and 3rd of September 1944 Truskaw was the place of a battle between the units of lieutenant Adolf Pilch aka “Góra-Dolina” and collaborationist RONA brigades (Soviet soldiers serving the Third Reich) recalled from Wola and Ochota where they committed unspeakable murders on civilian populace during the pacification of the Warsaw uprising.
During the short clash in Truskaw approximately 250 Russians were killed and 100 wounded, their possessions were seized including weapons, ammunition, heavy artillery equipment as well as valuables which had most likely been stolen in the occupied capital.
