Pałac Goldstandów w Zaborowie

Description

The palace in Zaborów is an example of residential architecture characteristic of urban bourgeoisie from the turn of the 19th and the 20th century, quickly growing rich and aspiring to owning impressive family residences resembling historical palaces and manors of aristocrats and landowners. The structure was constructed following the initiative of a Jewish banker Leon Feliks Goldstand from Warsaw and his wife Zofia Karnkowska, Junosz coat of arms. The residence was constructed between 1901 and 1903 in the place of a former estate of the Izbiński family. The design was ordered in the architectural company of Bogusław Lilpop and Karol Jankowski and bears neo-baroque and neo-classicistic style. After the death of the founders, the palace became the property of their daughter Janina Górska who fled to England together with her husband in 1939. During the Second World War Germans stationed on the property’s grounds and after the “liberation” by the Russians in 1945 the complex was turned into a state farm. Luckily, in 1968, the residence was handed over to the Polish Journalist Association, who conducted renovation of the interiors ending with the opening of the Journalist’s House. Currently the palace belongs to the heirs of the pre-war owners who are trying to restore its former glory. The interiors of the palace are divided into a representative ground floor, residential upper floor and an attic. What is worth noting is a spacious hall with a spiral staircase which has been used in film productions (“Kariera Nikodema Dyzmy”, “Lalka”). Around the residence there is a landscape park with beautiful specimens of trees and bushes. There are also grange buildings, living quarters and an outbuilding from the beginning of the 20th century remaining.
