Parafia św. Wincentego Ferreriusza

Borzęcin Duży ul. Warszawska 703

Description

The church of St. Wincenty of Ferrara in Borzęcin Duży is a Roman-Catholic temple constructed in rectangular projection, with three aisles and two tall towers in the front, covered with roof with decorative ledges. In the main altar there is an image of God’s Mother with infant Jesus behind a painting of the parish’s patron, a Dominican friar St. Wincent of Ferrara and in the coping of the altarpiece there is “Christ’s Baptism” (a copy of Raphael’s painting). The parish in Borzęcin Duży is one of the oldest in Mazowsze – the first mentions about it date back to the 13th century when its patron was St. Zygmunt. The previous, wooden church was constructed here as part of an initiative of Czerwińsk abbot Stanisław święcicki. However, the church burned down in 1852 and today, in its place, there is a wooden cross. The current, masoned church was funded in 1855 by Wincenty and Tekla Rapacka, owners of the Borzęcin and Ożarów properties. To commemorate the sponsor, the building was given the patronage of St. Wincent and additionally indulgences were established for the memory of St. Wincent and St. Tekla – namesake of the funder. Extending the church complex in Borzęcin was taken care of by subsequent parish priests: priest Wacław Kietliński renovated the temple at the beginning of the 20th century and his successor priest Jan Niemira constructed an organist’s house. During the ww2 the church was shot at by Wehrmacht soldiers, but shortly after the war was over, the temple was renovated. The latest restoration works were conducted in 2000 when the presbytery and the main altar were renovated.
