A monument dedicated to the insurgent special unit “Jerzyki” established in October 1939 by Jerzy Strzałkowski, a Siberian deportee, pedagogue and the chairman of the Association of Youth form the Far East.
At the beginning, loose units consisting mostly of former students and scouts operated on their own preparing to fight the occupant through courses in diversion and sabotage and secret education in NCO schools. In 1942 they were incorporated into the Home Army and sent to guerrilla units in the areas of Wołyń, Lubelszczyzna, Podlasie, Wileńszczyzna and Mazowsze. Between 28th of August and 2nd of September 1944 “Jerzyki” groups defended against the assault of the RONA units (collaborationist soldier formations serving the Third Reich) providing cover for a Home Army group in Wiersze (the so-called Kampinos Republic). The combat was joined by guerrillas from Sochaczew and a cavalry squadron of lieutenant Adolf Pilch aka “Dolina”. T
he victorious combat brought the death of 12 members of the Home Army, eight of the “Jerzyki” units and four uhlans. Currently in the area where the battle took place there is a sculpture in the form of a transparent cross and a plaque dedicated to the memory of the victims
