The National Remembrance Place in Sieraków includes three elements: a former shrine, a commemorative plaque and a round boulder with the symbol of Fighting Poland.
On 17th September 1939 there was a clash between cavalry units led by general Roman Abraham and German units which resulted in recapturing Sieraków from the enemy (for the price of substantial casualties – approximately 180 riflemen and uhlans were killed). The following days brought fierce combats over the facility for the blind in Laski which resulted in a failure despite the reinforcements from the broken “Pomorze” Army (over 770 soldiers of the Polish Army were killed here).
During the Hitlerian occupation, the area of the municipality of Izabelin was the place of operation for the “Obroża” Combat Diversion Unit of the 8th Region of the Home Army. Its compromised members were imprisoned, tortured and sent to concentration camps by the Germans (few survivors fought in the Warsaw uprising).
They are commemorated by a boulder with the symbol of Fighting Poland and a plaque with the names of 35 people killed fighting for the freedom of homeland.
