Part of the green Sothern Forest Trail going through the Kampinos Forest constitutes the educational trail “To the Old Oak”. It leads from Dziekanów Leśny to Posada Sieraków – slightly overgrowing, vast glade where a tired wanderer or cyclist may rest and find shelter from rain under one of the wooden sheds with benches. The glade (the locals call it “Pilchówka” referring to the name of a forest ranger who once lived here) is a wonderful spot for observing nature. The most interesting element of the local forest flora are several impressive old pedunculated oaks. The oldest among them, named according to its key feature the Old Oak, is 340 cm in perimeter. Its impressive size cannot be surprising considering it is over 200 years old. It is not perhaps a record among oaks, but the Old Oak may be considered a mature specimen, who, as a much younger tree, was a silent witness of dramatic events such as the January uprising. In this place, the green trail begins its course through an area included in the Protected Zone “Sieraków”. Not far from the Posada Sieraków glade, dry coniferous forest turns into wetland alder forest, the kings of which are beavers. In the local folklore, these swamps – one of the wild dens of the Kampinos Forest – are referred to as the dwelling of the king of snakes, hence their romantic and somewhat dark name – “Cichowąż” (Silent-Snake).
