Tablica ofiar wojny w Izabelinie

Izabelin ul. Leśna 12

Description

On a masoned fence at 12 Leśna street in Izabelin, following an initiative of the soldiers of the “Kampinos” group of the Home Army, a plaque was placed in order to commemorate one of many brutal murders committed in the local area by the Nazi oppressors. An inscription on a modest, rectangular granite plaque informs that here, on the 11th November 1943, during a failed attempt to arrest cadet Franciszek Sznajder (aka “Dąb” II), commander of the 1st Platoon the company of lieutenant “Zetes” of the Home Army, two women were burned alive – Jadwiga Sznajder and Zofia Raciborska. The murder was committed by members of the German gendarmerie from Zborowo. As a result of the treason of Antoni Zych, a member of the conspiracy, which also resulted in a series of arrests and brutal executions, the occupational authorities learned that weapons were hidden in the property where Sznajder lived. Both women were locked inside the house, which was then set on fire. Halina Sznajder, a sister of a wanted Home Army soldier who was also a conspiracy member and performed the function of a liaison officer, was arrested but despite being tortured, did not give up anyone. Eventually she was murdered.
